Con l’avvento di html5 stanno aumentando i benefici per gli sviluppatori frontend che devono migliorare la user experience, ma si scontrando spesso con i limiti dei browser datati.
Un piccolo aiuto viene dalla proposta del forum sull’html5 di utilizzare l’attributo placeholder nei campi di input testuali per suggerire all’utente cosa inserire. Questo attributo funziona per il momento solo sui browser basati su Webkit (Safari e Chrome), ma è possibile clonarne la funzione con un po’ di jQuery.
Prima controlliamo se il browser supporta l’attributo placeholder (metodo usato su Dive Into HTML5 )

Facebook ha lanciato da qualche settimana il servizio Luoghi (Places in lingua originale), e con l’ultima versione dell’app per iPhone è possibile geotaggarsi nei luoghi in cui ci si trova. Peccato che questa funzionalità esista solo per gli utenti che si trovano negli Stati Uniti: il controllo viene effettuato tramite l’indirizzo ip della connessione. Ma proprio perché questo è l’unico “ostacolo” per utilizzare questa feature, è facilmente raggirabile usando una VPN, come ad esempio HotSpot Shield. Seguite le istruzioni, attivate la VPN, accedete a Facebook, e Luoghi sarà utilizzabile.

I was developing a WordPress custom theme for a client and I came across a small problem: the articles should have an introductory text other than the abstract (basic functionality of WP). In practice it was to include some text in a

with a specific class, and to avoid the customer having to remember every time the correct syntax, I created a shortcode and a quicktag button on the bar of the text editor to allow him to do everything with a click.
I recalled a post on the use of shortcode in WPrecipes, and so I went looking for that article, but then I stumbled on the problem of adding the quicktag button to the toolbar: all the results that I found was to edit a file of the basic installation of WordPress, and this would mean that an update of the platform would lose my changes. Until I found this post which explains how to add a button without changing the original file, with the creation of a plugin. But I prefer to have a theme related function, so that, once the theme is activated, everything would be available.

Let’s say you have a post under a subcategory and you want to show only the top level category that is assigned to the post, you can use this function:
